The Entrepreneurial Signature Program (ESP) Program Director provides intensive, high quality business development services in the Southeast Ohio region in a high energy, fast paced environment. This position serves as a key liaison, creating and maintaining partnerships with stakeholders in the region including institutions of higher education, financial institutions, economic development professionals, business assistance professionals, business incubators, the Small Business Development Centers in the region, other non-profit and governmental business development assistance organizations, private businesses and state agencies. The ideal candidate must be able to create viable, scalable and sustainable technology businesses by providing and overseeing the provision of analytical, management, organizational development, strategic and technical consulting services to growth oriented technology enterprises in the Southeast Region. This person will manage and oversee all internal operational processes, several staff and consultant contracts and is responsible for management and compliance for all with regards to the reporting and funding requirements of the grant. The ESP Program director will travel extensively throughout the region and represent The Voinovich Schools at economic development meetings and related conferences. The goal is to create sustainable and scalable business ventures with potential assistance of equity funding. The position offers a real opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people and companies in Appalachia Ohio. Minimum Qualifications: A Master’s of Business Administration degree, equivalent management degree, or equivalent experience is required to understand complex business theories, venture capital fund practices, financial/banking institution practices, and general business research and administrative practices needed to provide value added operational assistance to clients and to supervise staff. At least five years of business or consulting experience working with a wide range of clients/businesses/industries is necessary for well developed skills, techniques and credibility. Previous professional experience should be in the areas of securing venture capital funding for businesses or clients; project management; starting and growing businesses, debt or equity financing; business plan creation; marketing research; operational efficiency practices; and strategic plan development. Demonstrated ability to advise and guide clients and to lead, work and/or mentor project team members. Experience as a proven entrepreneur is a plus. Experience building and maintaining external partnerships and experience with business development programs and sourcing prospects and clients are a plus. Previous experience with grant management is preferred. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required. This position is based at Ohio University’s Athens campus, and the individual must be able to drive throughout the 29 county region as needed.
Salary commensurate with experience and based on qualifications and includes an excellent benefits package.
