CDVCA Annual Conference
2007 Annual Conference and Pre-Conference Introductory Workshop
March 21-23, 2007
Phoenix Park Hotel
Washington, DC
The conference was held Thursday and Friday, March 22 and 23 in Washington, DC. An in-depth, day-long workshop entitled An Introduction to Community Development Venture Capital preceded the conference on Wednesday, March 21.

The community development venture capital industry is operating in a new and more hopeful policy environment this year. As such, we were pleased to have three important policy makers give addresses at the national conference. On Thursday morning, March 22nd, Kim Reed, the newly-named Administrator of the federal CDFI Fund, made her first public address since her appointment. On that same afternoon, Congresswoman Gwen Moore discussed the need for equity capital in underinvested communities and how her legislation, the SEED Act, provides support for venture capital funds in these areas. To close out the conference, Dan Horowitz, Assistant Administrator of the Office of Policy and Strategic Planning at the Small Business Administration, spoke about the SBA's exploration of new ways to direct capital to underinvested areas of the nation. As always, the conference included a host of nuts and bolts sessions on such topics as investor relations, engineering successful exits, rural CDVC, structuring deals, and the tradeoff between being a regional generalist and sector specialist fund.
